Description
Recent studies show that plutonium and the other f-elements have more extensive electron transfer chemistry than previously thought. These discoveries suggest that understanding heavy element redox processes could lead to major advances in electron transfer chemistry, in general. Inspired by those scientific breakthroughs, we are convening a multi-disciplinary group of experts to formally identify opportunities and new areas ripe for discovery at this workshop titled, "Redox Chemistry with Heavy Elements; From Biotic Isotope Fractionation to Photocatalysis."
This workshop is organized by Los Alamos National Laboratory, Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, and Argonne National Laboratory and supported by the Chemical Sciences, Geosciences, and Biosciences (CSGB) division in the DOE Office of Science, Basic Energy Sciences (BES).
CSGB workshops follow the long-standing tradition of providing visionary inspiration for the research community. To this end, this workshop focuses on identifying emerging opportunities in heavy element chemistry with the potential for transformative impact on actinide chemistry and its influence across the periodic table.
Participants of the workshop will represent a diverse blend of early-career, mid-career, and senior scientists, reflecting a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. We hope that gathering these diverse perspectives, in the inspiring setting of the Colorado mountains, will spark creativity and innovation to pioneer advances in actinide science.
Important
We wish to ensure an intimate workshop setting, with no more than 20 to 25 participants. If you are interested in attending but have not received an invitation, please contact the workshop organizer before registering.
Schedule
Sessions typically run mornings and late afternoons, leaving mid-day free for informal collaboration.
