Description
Electrochemical reactions underpin many of the transformations needed for a sustainable and technologically advanced society, including energy storage, chemical production, resource extraction, and sensing. The central challenge in applying electrochemistry principles to build useful devices is to selectively accelerate the desired electrochemical reaction while suppressing the others. Invariably, any electrochemical reaction of interest proceeds concurrently with other, typically unwanted, reactions, for example, formation of passivating surface films, catalyst corrosion or fouling, hydrogen evolution during metal electrodeposition, and oxygen redox processes in oxide substrates. The coupled nature of the desired and unwanted reactions directly influences the performance and durability of electrochemical systems.
Historically, given the broad applicability of electrochemistry in enabling multiple diverse technologies, the coupled reactions have been tuned within specific application areas through a combination of materials design, electrode engineering, and system-level strategies. However, this application-specific approach has limited the development of broadly applicable molecular-level principles for predicting and controlling these processes. Uncovering such broadly applicable molecular insights will transform the current practices for tailoring coupled reactions in electrochemical systems. The proposed workshop brings together electrochemical experts from different disciplines and career stages to share emerging mechanistic insights into competing reactions and reaction selectivity by systematically altering species in the microenvironment. The unique discussion-heavy format of the Telluride workshop will enable cross-disciplinary exchange and synthesis of these insights, accelerating the development of predictive strategies to tailor electrochemical reactions in future electrochemical systems.
Important
We wish to ensure an intimate workshop setting, with no more than 20 to 25 participants. If you are interested in attending but have not received an invitation, please contact the workshop organizer before registering.
Schedule
Sessions typically run mornings and late afternoons, leaving mid-day free for informal collaboration.
Lodging and Travel
Travel to Telluride can be expensive; please assess your own potential travel costs before registering.
Please book your travel plans! The Montrose Regional Airport (MTJ) is the most reliable and convenient airport for Telluride.
Telluride Science can provide lodging starting as low as $215/night during off-peak weeks and as low as $250/night during peak-season at the Mountainside Inn. These affordable lodging options are limited and available first-come, first-serve. To encourage participants to secure affordable lodging, we offer a $100 discount on lodging provided through Telluride Science that is secured before the Early Bird deadline. Additionally, we work with many lodging providers in Telluride and Mountain Village to offer discounts between 10-15% off your total lodging balance. Additional information provided with registration.
If you have more questions about lodging, reach out to Sara at sara@telluridescience.org.
Cancellation Policy
Registrations may be refunded less a $25 cancellation fee. If cancelled before the lodging cancellation deadline, lodging payments are refundable less a $100 cancellation fee. It is each participant's responsibility to confirm and understand their own lodging cancellation deadline. Travel insurance is highly recommended.
